A 60TH BIRTHDAY a la MLB

It was so fun planning, designing, coordinating and styling this surprise birthday party!

During our consultation the party host was undecided on the colors/theme/design. All she knew was that she wanted everything well designed/coordinated and that it will simply wow the guest of honor-her mom.

So I asked what was the birthday girl's favorite color palette is and I was told navy blue. Now, the guest of honor is a huge METS fan...HOME RUN...and that's how this theme/design was born.

Guests received these VIP game ticket invitation...

Upon arrival, guests were greeted with baseball shape/designed escort cards (that could also serve as coasters)...but first must autograph the bat for the guest of honor. So every guest was a star player at this surprise birthday field.

Some centerpieces contained floating gerberas, floating candles, baseballs, blue lighting and a table name card for guest seating. We used names of the guest of honor's favorite players.

Other centerpieces were designed as a floral baseball a top of a cylinder vase filled with peanuts.

Menu Cards were tucked in blue and ornage satin napkins.

Favors were a hit! Peanut bags and Cracker Jacks-a classic!

On the reverse side, the tag read :

Hope you had a Ball!

And of course this party could not go on without its mascot...Mr. MET made appearance in form of edible art. Check out the awesome cake by Goehrigs Bakery.

I had such an amazing time designing, creating, coordinating and styling all the elements for this beautiful event. It was a HOME RUN party! Next come and check out the Thank You cards I am designing for the guest of honor.

I know, I know...we've been MIA for a bit...sorry! A lot has happened here, including lots of beautiful weddings...we hope to soon catch up. For now I leave you with Janet and Jack's wedding sneak peek. We designed her beautiful stationery and wedding and coordinated the day. We had so much fun with this gorgeous Bride!

Janet and Jack planned a beautiful Spring wedding,their ceremony was very touching and a very elegant and FUN reception followed at Solar Manor. She selected a beautiful color combo;
Hot Pink, Black and Damask...and Bling!
Designing and creating her stationery was a delight, she loved all things damask and pretty paper.

Guests took home gorgeous favors; Italian espresso sets that displayed beautifully in a shimmery Ivory box.They also served as Escort Cards; a 3 layer card was attached with a wrap-around black satin ribbon to each box displaying guests names and table assigned.

Inspiration: Paper Flag Escort Cards

You can assign seating by numbering these cutesy paper flags. Or tweak the idea a little by substituting scrapbooking paper for fabric, and substitute the use of table numbers, instead give each table a different tablecloth pattern, and the patterns become the table-assignment designators.

The scrapbooking paper/fabric can be used as place mats or turned into runners for your tables.

DIY Tutorial

1. To make the flags, cut paper into 6 1/2-by-1 3/4-inch rectangles. With a glue stick, cover the underside of each rectangle with glue, and fold over a toothpick. Press down firmly, and cut a notch at the ends. Print guest names and numbers, and cut into mini labels. Glue the name labels onto the flags.

2. To make the tiered stand, buy 1/2-inch foam board. Cut into 12-inch, 9-inch, 6-inch, and 3-inch widths (they can be as long as your display area). Starting with the bottom tier, stack them from widest to thinnest, aligning on the back edge; then glue.

3. Cut bulletin borders, the kind teachers use, to fit the sides of each level, and glue them with a tape stamper.

4. Stick escort flags into the foam board, and set out the display.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries‘ wedding invitation is surprisingly traditional. Everybody knows the couple will tie the knot in a black-tie affair on August 20 in Montecito, California. However, unlike any other invitation for any type of gathering we've ever seen, there is no address and no time listed.

My guess...guests should plan to drive around Montecito aimlessly for 24 hours until they see a party or something.

The cream-colored invitations by Lehr and Black, are printed in black and are emblazoned with a
double-intertwined K insignia for the couple's first names and were mailed to guests inside a silver cardboard box. Also included in the package were three glossy white-and-black cards with RSVP details and hotel suggestions.
The invite reads:

Honour vs. Honor

Hope everyone had a great weekend! We are glad the heat wave is over and that we're back to 'normal' summer temperature...hope the 80-something degree weather lasts so we can all breathe!

Thought I'd share this helpful tip.

As I was working with one of my couples on their wedding invitation wording finals, it didn't take me by surprise when they asked me the Honour vs. Honor? question. Although many couples prefer not to use the british grammar, proper etiquette says that if the couple is being married in a house of worship, the Honour form is appropriate. If the wedding is held at an outside venue or a hotel, the spelling Honor is used.

We don't have to tell you that your wedding is one of the biggest and most important celebrations of your life! But keep in mind that the first impression of your wedding day will all begin with your wedding invitation.

Lollipops come in many shapes, sizes and flavors. It's no wonder why they are a favorite treat for people of all ages! Whether they are filled with gum, chocolate or just plain sugar, no one can deny the deliciousness of a lollipop.

Though an early form of the lollipop—honey on a stick—is said to have been around since the time that cavemen roamed the earth, the real deal wasn’t invented until centuries later. However, the story of the creation of the first lollipop is a heavily debated topic. Most people do agree on the fact that George Smith, the owner of a small, American candy store, came up with the sweet's name. In the early 1900s, he called the candy a "lollipop" after his favorite racehorse—Lolly Pop.

We here at CSE/FYEP are grilling it up today with our family and will continue the festivities tomorrow with more family and friends.

It's going to be a hot one tomorrow, we are sharing this recipe from Coastal Living so you can toast your country while cooling yourself. Enjoy this easy to make Red and Blue Patriotic Margarita.

Instructions:

1. Puree thawed frozen strawberries.

2. Blend 2 tablespoons each of the strawberry puree, dark rum, coconut milk, pineapple juice, fresh lime juice, and ½ cup crushed ice in a blender until smooth.
3. Pour 2 to 4 tablespoons HPNOTIQ into a glass, and top with 2 to 4 tablespoons of the strawberry mixture.

If you asked FYEP/CSE this questions, our answer hands down will simply be YES.

Some couples think that hiring a Professional Videographer for their Wedding is a waste of money. They ask "How many times will we actually watch it?"

FYEP/CSE's suggestions:
1. Upon receiving your wedding video allow some time alone for yourselves to watch and relive the day. After you have both enjoyed your time alone and watched, invite immediate family/friends and watch over dinner, drinks, etc...
2.On your 1st anniversary have a small gathering, heck...(why not make it a party?!) with your family and friends. With everyone present,watch your wedding video and relive the day with them.
3. As you celebrate your anniversary each year, bring out your video and watch with your partner over champagne and strawberries or after a romantic dinner.

Ok, so as necessary as still pictures are, they can not capture the mood, movement and sounds of your wedding day like a movie can. One of the biggest misconceptions is that you have a great memory and you'll remember everything about your day. You won't, you can't, there are too many things going on and you're on cloud 9. With so much happening on your wedding day, the details may blur past you. But if you have hired a professional videographer, then don't worry - your wedding video will serve as a handy reminder of all the happy events and help you relive the day as years go by.

This post comes into place after one of our clients debated on whether a videographer was in her budget or not. It took 9 months for her budget to allow and her decision to be made but we're happy she had a change of heart a week to her wedding day and that we were able to help her find a great company and videographer...now we can't wait for the final product from Warger Productions!

Miniature envelopes holding stamped table assignments were pinned to a fabric-covered board propped on an easel and displayed on the lawn.

How to DIY:

Wrap a foam board with fabric, securing the edges with masking tape.

Using rubber number stamps and colored ink, press your table numbers onto their respective escort cards.

Place the escort cards in their corresponding envelopes, and attach them evenly to board with ball pins.

Wish Upon a Wedding is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation. Often, couples facing such situations do not have the energy, time, money, or resources needed to plan their wedding. Our organization takes care of all the details, offering couples a chance to relax and enjoy a very special day while surrounded by the love of their closest family and friends.

I wanted to share a few pictures from the launch party that took place at The Florentine Gardens back in January for this wondeful organization. We think a homemade ring pillow has tons more charm than most store-bought options. Choose a pretty fabric and sew your own from a pair of squares. (If the thought of needle and thread makes you itch, enlist a crafty friend.) Secure bands with a ribbon tacked to the top.

Ribbon Ring Pillow

A handmade ring pillow will look lovely from all angles when its sides are crafted from pretty ribbon. To give the cushion a tufted effect and to provide a spot for the rings to nestle, add a button by stitching all the way through. Attach the rings by tying them to the button with a thin ribbon. Velvet Leaf Ring Pilow

Floral Ring Pillow

Create a soft, plump pillow using flowers instead of fabric. Cut a block of floral foam to size and poke 'Kermit' chrysanthemum stems into top and sides. Push a U-shaped piece of green floral wire through foam; bend tips flush against bottom of block. Cover bottom by pinning paper over. Tie rings to wire with ribbon.

It's only fitting to present the symbols of a new union on a beautiful "something old": a pillow embellished with an heirloom handkerchief or another vintage linen. Wedding Tip: RSVP Cards

When you are putting your wedding invitations together number the lower corner of the back of the RSVP cards and make a list - on paper or on your computer (maybe on an excel sheet that also tracks your will/will not attend) - where a guest name or couple corresponds to each number. This way when you get an RSVP card back in the mail with no name or return address you can easily figure out who sent it back and you won't have to worry about calling everyone you are waiting to hear back from to see if they were the nameless guest.

Thirsty Thursday: Pink Inspiration

Fruity Pebbles

Ingredients:
1 – 750 mL bottle of Amaretto
1 – 750 mL bottle of Peach Schnapps
4 – cups Cranberry Juice
2 – cups Pineapple Juice
Splash of Grenadine

Mix ingredients in a large pitcher or punch bowl and it’s ready to serve all day! Garnish cocktail glass with a pineapple slice and cherry which add a nice touch.

Etiquette: RSVP

RSVP

The term comes from the French expression “Répondez, s’il vous plaît,” or, “Please reply/Please respond.” This little code has been around for a long time and it’s definitely telling you that your hosts want to know if you are attending. Reply promptly, if possible, within a day or two of receiving an invitation.

Whether it is to a wedding, a dinner party, shower or gala event, an invitation comes with some important obligations.

If RSVP is written on an invitation it means the invited guest must tell the host whether or not they plan to attend the party. It does not mean to respond only if you're coming, and it does not mean respond only if you're not coming (the expression "regrets only" is reserved for that instance). It means the host needs a definite head count for the planned event, and needs it by the date specified on the invitation.

An incomplete list of respondents can cause numerous problems for a host including difficulty in planning food quantities, issues relating to meeting minimum guarantees with catering halls, uncertainty over the number of party favors and difficulties in planning appropriate seating, among other things.

So the next time you see RSVP on an invitation you receive, please respond promptly.

Valentine’s Day isn’t just a celebration of romance. It is a celebration of LOVE. And as a celebration of love, Valentine’s Day can and should include the entire family—whether you are single or part of a couple.
We want to share some creative ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day together as a family. There’s no need to limit the celebration to one day, either … it can span the entire week!

Have a Valentine’s Exchange
Remember those paper bags from elementary school? Grab a handful and decorate them together as a family; write the name of each family member on a bag. Buy a box of store-bought cards (or better yet, make your own). Write one thing you like about each member of the family on a card (no peeking!). If your kids are too young to write, have them color a picture on each card instead. Fill out enough cards for each day of the week; drop one in each bag every day. At the end of the week, open the bags together and share the comments/drawings.

Schedule a Family Photo Shoot
Grab your camera and have a family photo session. Snap a picture of each family member with every other member of the family—just two people per picture. Print the photos out and have each person make a handmade and handwritten Valentine’s card for the person in the picture with them.

Tell Your Love Story
Take advantage of the occasion to tell your children your story as a couple—how you met, why you fell in love, what you have learned from your spouse/partner, etc. Keep it short, sweet and age-appropriate. Your kids may outwardly protest, but inwardly, they’ll love hearing their parents say nice things about each other. Throw a little kiss on the cheek too and watch them really squirm.

Have I mentioned how much I love Fall weddings? It's the crisp clean air, the in between hot and cold and the vibrant colors. Kim and James did not overlook any detail on their Fall themed wedding.

Meet Jimberly!

I truly enjoyed working with Kim, she was the type of gal that felt like we knew each other for years. And she was funny...it's always a plus when your bride has a great sense of humor. I even saved Kim's email inquiry...one of my favs.

Here's part of it...

"Hi Catherine!I had read the rave reviews about your candy buffets and the pictures are beautiful! I write to you as I am a very overwhelmed bride! I am getting married in October of this year, and the candy buffet is the number 1 most important thing to me at my wedding (I know, the dress should be number 1, but the candy buffet is it!) So far I have purchased over 20 jars, designed my labels on my bags, researched candy...but...I haven't thought out about set-up and breakdown or even the overall look of the buffet and it's driving me crazy! I'm afraid I just won't do it justice! I am hoping you can help me and that I'm not too far gone into the bridal abyss! Thank you! Kim

...I am glad Kim's dress got the attention it deserved because her dress was simply beautiful and she looked stunning.

The centerpieces had orange stargazers and roses and stood on a tall trumpet vase filled with mini pumpkins.

Some table swere adorned with pumpkins as the centerpiece.

When we revealed the Candy Buffet Display to Kim and James, It was definitely a lasting impression and one that puts a smile on my face every time I think of their special day. I truly enjoyed working with them and so happy to have been a part of their day, so filled with sweetness and love.

We used a long 6 footer and added a round table to display the plethora of sweets. In additiona to the 12 jars of candies, Kim's aunt made from soup to nuts of homemade chocolates to add to the feast of sweetness...the chocolates were delightful...and FYEP's favorite...chocolate covered oreos!

Branches are a lways a nice element for a fall theme.

We tied these tags to each candy bag given to guests.

Lara and Sean were such a sweet couple!

There was so much love involved in the design/planning process, that's what moms are all about! I met with Lara (Bride) and her mom, Gayle to go over her wedding plans. From there on, I had the opportunity of working closely with a very organized and hands on Mother of the Bride. Lara's mom knew exactly what her daughter visioned and was simply excited through the entire process.

As she planned with us most of the details from afar (Canada), she really put her heart out to make sure Lara and Sean had the wedding they deserved and that the soon to be newlyweds didn't have any added stress aside from their full time jobs and school.

On the other hand each meeting with Lara was so full of energy, it was truly a pleasure to work with her.

We are so happy to have been a part of their special day.

I've been working with Kimberly via email. Although I don't personally know her, It feels like every email is going to an old friend--we are always on the same page about everything. It features a metallic brown layer backing, metallic opal printed card with a leaf monogram separating each of the courses. All four corners of each card are scalloped to complement her favor tags and escort tags.

I receive this question many times when brides are getting ready to address their wedding invitations, escort cards etc...

You should use Miss for any single female under 18 and Ms. for any single female older than 18. If the single female guest is a widow you should use Mrs. as in Mrs. Jane Marie Doe.

Julie and Michael came to CSE/FYEP as a referral from a previous bride and hired me for our "Day of Coordination" package. They both wanted someone to make sure it all ran smooth through the day including their 55 person bridal party processional and giving both the bride and groom a peace of mind. We delivered just that! Everything was set up and coordinated according to the couple's wishes.

Ivette ordered these simple ornate invitations from our Carlson Craft collection. She loved the design but when they arrived I realized they needed some color which was not an option through Carlson Craft. They offer the white printed panel, so Ivette and I discussed to enhanced them a bit...by adding a backing to the panel invite in either Olive or Espresso. She couldn't decide on a color, she loved both the Olive and Espresso cardstock, so we opted for both. I added a matte Olive backing layer to half the invites and Espresso metallic backing to the other half. Ivette was very happy with the outcome, she wanted to remain simple but with a splash of what her wedding colors will be.

Denise ordered this square pocketfold invitation from our Carlson Craft collection but wanted to add a little umph to it...So we went ahead and enhanced the invite by creating a custom front square tab with the couples names and added a wrap around ribbon.

The front tab features scalloped corners, bottom layer cardstock in metallic onix and top printed layer in metallic opal. Satin Ivory ribbon was added to wrap around the invite.

We look forward to creating menus, favor tags, table numbers and escort cards for this September bride and groom...stay tumed.

Just finished working on these samples...
Kim is getting married in October and we just can't wait to create a fabulous Candy Bar for her guests to enjoy. These will be attached to her candy bags as guests select from the plethora of sweets we will display. She's obsessed with everything Candy--just like us at FYEP's NJ Candy Buffets! She wanted a diamond shaped favor tag with a fall theme feel.

They all feature cardstock in metallic brown/bronze for backing and metallic opal for the printed layer. Print in Espresso and tied with a satin brown ribbon.

Hey bloggers, readers and friends...meet this beautiful couple; Chanda and Gregory!

Chanda and Gregory had an intimate vow renewal ceremony with family and close friends on a beautiful Saturday morning in May. Their afternoon celebration took place at The Tides Estate. At most weddings, I am the planner/coordinator/designer but this was quite different wedding, because somehow, somewhere along the way, I became friends with this couple's cake baker {a.k.a Groom's aunt} and ended up being her assistant in helping her design/construct the cake the day of! You should have seen me rolling/cutting fondant and creating bows. She joked that I should be a cake designer, but hey folks...then who's gonna bake? LOL
It is a good thing I'm not a cake baker/designer, because if you know me, you know I love to eat cake. Here's the end result :0) No detail was overlooked...

Beach Weddings...

Having a Beach Wedding?

With the high request we've recieved for beach weddings this year and the coming year...I've created this post to point out some details we as your planner keep on point for your beach wedding ceremony. But in the event you didn't hire a wedding planner, here are some details you won't want to overlook.

~As with any outdoor wedding, you will be at the mercy of the weather as well as the topography. You will want to take steps to protect yourself, and you will also want to have a "Plan B."
~
Beach umbrellas can be colorful and make nice features; how about an artfully arranged slew of them, including, of course, one for the bride, groom and officiant? Canopies work well, too, and if you are having a Jewish wedding you'll be using a chuppah at any rate. Make sure whatever you use is sturdy enough to withstand any surprising weather on your wedding day. As for Plan B... make arrangements with venue or establishment for your wedding party to take refuge and continue the ceremony in case of extreme weather. If you have chosen the remotest possible beach with no shelter within reach, you will want to bring a tent as backup.

~Wear light make up

~Bring some sandals for yourself and if the budget is flexible, provide some for your guests (high heels in sand, may be a liability)

~Provide umbrellas (in case of rain) or Parasols (for some shade) and/or fans for your guests

~Provide light refreshments and water to your guests

~Ask your officiant to have a good sound system to conduct the ceremony, if he or she doesn't provide it, ask your wedding planner recommendations on someone to hire that provides that service. A beach wedding probably wouldn't work well for an extremely large group. It is hard to hear outdoors, and the more people there are, the farther some of them must be from the ceremony. You don't want to scream "I DO!" Worse, you may experience some noisy surprises, such as motorboats, other people may chance by, they may happen to be drunk, rude or just plain noisy, and unless you're on a private beach, there's nothing you can do about it. If you're intent upon a beach wedding, try to keep the guest list (and the duration) short for the ceremony itself, have your reception indoors.

~Bamboo mats; a mat will be desirable for the bride and groom if rings are to be exchanged; you don't want to drop that ring in the sand!

Today is the national holiday of Ireland, which celebrates the patron Saint Patrick. At the age of sixteen, Saint Patrick was captured and sold into slavery to a sheep farmer. When he was 22, he escaped and spent the next twelve years of his life in a monastery. Saint Patrick later returned to Ireland where he spent the rest of his life preaching as a Christian missionary.

Today, St. Patrick's Day has turned into a worldwide celebration of Irish culture and history. Viviana and Henry exchanged their wedding vows at the Fordham University Church.

Their Reception took place at The Graycliff where they planned an event that was representative of them...

Their wedding colors, ceremony location and the little surprises they gave their wedding guests, all screamed out loud Viv and Henry!

The Groom's emotional reaction when seeing his bride for the first time that day...walking down the aisle.

This brings tears to my eyes.

Henry's Bestmaid wore a maroon dress and groomsmen wore maroon ties, representing Fordham University and the alumnus Groom.

This one is breathtaking...

Viviana's Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids wore blue dresses representing Penn State University and the alumnus Bride.

The snow left over from previous days was a beautiful addition to winter shots.

After ceremony and formals, the bride and groom and bridal party ...and obviously photographer raided the Castle...nice! Great pics!

Viviana and Henry were a DIY Bride & Groom, and they were very talented I must say. They created their monogram, invitations, menus cards, programs...all were very cohesive of the entire event.

Cake, was one thing that was definitely not short at this wedding. In honor of the Bride and Groom's different heritages, a Dominican Cake and Ecuadorian Cake were given to guests as favors in a cute cake box adorned by the Bride and her mom.

Towards the end of the night Viviana changed into her second dress!

Viviana and Henry had a surprise for their guests and family. Keeping the entire event representative of them...they performed a salsa dance number by Celia Cruz. Viv and Henry met during Salsa classes-how sweet to have added this special touch! And they totally rocked it!

I know I've been slacking on my Thirsty Thursday posts.
So, today I share with you one of my favorite beverages...Sangria!

Brazilian Sangria

Ingredients:

1 lime, diced
2-3 bar spoons of sugar
3/4 oz. Agua Luca cachaca
1 oz. red wine
3/4 oz of passion puree

In a rocks glass add lime and sugar. Muddle the lime and sugar together. Add the rest of the ingredients. Shake vigorously and serve in a rocks glass.

Garnish with sugarcane and lime.

Love is in the air!

Valentines Day is a very special day indeed, it is a day to celebrate love-the most beautiful feeling, a day to share a loving message with your sweetheart and loved ones...and a day that is all about sweets...or at least it is in my world!

I am in OCD drive right now= obsessive chocolate disorder. I made sure I keep it healthy, so chocolate covered strawberries are my weakness today. hehehe

About Valentine's Day: Spend this Valentine's Day showing your significant other that you care by sending flowers, a personalized Valentine's Card, or candy. This American tradition can be traced back to ancient Christian and Roman times, celebrating the martyr Saint Valentine. Young men used to take lottery tickets at the Roman festival of Lupercalia to determine which girl would be their valentine. During Medieval times, girls often ate bizarre foods on Valentine's Day in order to make themselves dream of their future spouses.

Today, people participate in a variety of traditions and customs to show their love and affection. Romantic dinners, presents, and weekend getaways (one of my favorites) top the list.

On the flip side, Valentine's Day is one of the few holidays that has generated quite the opposition. There's a huge group of people who are vocally against Valentine's Day and celebrate the Anti-Valentine's Day. Those are often people who think Valentine's Day is too commercial or too cheesy or maybe they're just bitter. Want in on the fun? Send an anti-Valentine's Day eCard to celebrate!

About Cakes:

Cakes have been around since the discovery of flour. Variations on cake recipes could be found around the world based on the particular region, but all had the same basic cake characteristics.

In Medieval England, cakes were flour-based sweet foods described as breads. The words bread and cake were somewhat interchangeable for some time among Neolithic villages and they were usually cooked on a hot stone.

In Greece, cakes were more of a heavy, flat cake and were called "plakous." During the Roman period, cakes were primarily used as an offering to their gods. These types of cakes were also more like a cheesecake or pastry

Today, cakes, breads, and pastries have differentiated themselves significantly and all have blossomed into wide arrays of sizes, shapes, and flavors.
